Install ClockWorkMod Recovery 5 (for ICS) on Micromax Funbook with zero
I have seen many tutorials on the internet that just blindly copy other
blogs and post tutorials on how to install stuff on their Android
tabs/phones or any other devices without even trying out the process.
This can result in messed up devices, bricked phones and definitely a
fu*ked up mind. Anyways, when I tried installing CWM on my Funbook it
gave me a lot of errors. But I quickly found out what was causing the
problem.
In this post I will tell you how to PROPERLY install CWM 5 on your Micromax Funbook without facing any errors. Your Micromax Funbook comes pre rooted so will will skip that part.
Install SuperUser & SU Update Fixer
You will first need to install SuperUser from the Google Play Store. After you are dome installing SuperUser then search for SU Update Fixer on Google Play Store and install it.
After you are done, open SuperUser. Go to Superuser App > Settings > Su Binary > Install the Binary
Reboot after that. Now move on to the next step.
Download CWM Recovery 5 for ICS
For installing CWM on your Micromax Funbook you will first need to download it. Download it from this link. After you have downloaded the ZIP file extract it on your PC.
Download CWM Recovery 5
Open the ADB_Drivers folder.
You will find 2 ZIP files. Now, If your PC is 32-bit the extract the
32-bit ZIP file and if your PC is 64-bit then extract the 64-bit ZIP
file. We will use the extracted folder later in this tutorial.
Connect your tablet to PC
You have to use the USB data cable provided with your Micromax Funbook to connect it to your PC. But before you connect it. Enable USB Debugging on your tab. Go to Settings > Developer Options > Turn On USB Debugging.
Now we will increase the screen sleep timeout so that we can prevent the
screen from getting turned off in the middle of the process. Go to Settings > Display > Select Never at Sleep.
Now you are ready to connect your tab to your PC.
After connecting you will see that your PC will be finding drivers for
your tab. It will fail, but this is not a reason to worry. DO NOT TURN ON USB STORAGE.
While keeping your tab still connected to PC, press the windows key + R. This will open the Run dialogue box.
Now, type devmgmt.msc. This will open the Device manager. Browse to “Unknown Device” and right click on it and choose Update Driver Software.
After you click Update Driver Software you
will see a new window. Now click “Browse To Find Driver”. Point it to
the folder you extracted earlier in this tutorial. Choose between 32-bit
or 64-bit as per your PC.
Installing will take about a minute.
Installing CWM Recovery 5
Finally after completeing all the above written steps we will now install ClockWorkMod Recovery 5 or CWM Recovery 5 on Micromax Funbook.
Open the Recovery-install.bat in the extracted ZIP folder. You will see a screen like this.
Press any key to continue. The next screen will look like this.
Now press 1 and CWM Recovery 5 will install without any problem.
To check if the CWM Recovery 5 has installed properly reboot into the
recovery mode. Now, disconnect the tab from the PC and shut it down.
Reboot in recovery mode
To reboot into recovery mode first press the options button and then
press the power button simultaneously. Both buttons are to be pressed at
the same time until you see the Micromax’s new fist logo.
Troubleshooting
We are done with the basic installing stuff. Now what if you are getting
some weird errors while installing? Owners of the new Funbook (yes you
read that right) with baseband 1.2 and Android 4.0.3 may face some
errors like I did.
Following are the solutions that you can try to get rid of them. They worked like a charm for me.
Install SuperUser from the Google Play Store if you forgot to do so. Update binary. If it fails, don’t worry just keep trying it will update.
Install Terminal Emulator from the Google Play Store. Open
it, in terminal window enter “su” and press enter, if you get a prompt
then allow it, if you see a # then its okay, you have the root access.
If not, then repeat the above step. It is necessary, you cannot continue
before you complete this step.
Download & install ES File Explorer from the Google Play Store. Now go to the settings of ES File Manager, check all the root related options and make sure the “Up to Root” option is checked. If not then check it.
Now start ES file explorer,
go to root, long press the dev folder, set properties, check all boxes,
click ok. Do the same for the data folder, now open the dev folder, and
repeat the steps for the block folder, and inside the block folder do
the steaps for nandg file.
Make sure you have checked USB debugging from developers options in system settings, connect the cable, install drvers.
But if you still have any problem then let me know in the comments.
